Premium Paint - NIPPON PAINT PU UNDERCOAT WHITE

1. Product Information:

Nippon Paint PU UNDERCOAT WHITE is a polyurethane-based oil with two components resulting from the reaction between acrylic and isocyanate. This paint is used as a middle coat for interior and exterior surfaces such as ferrous and non-ferrous metals, iron, wood, plastic, plastered walls, concrete, already primed surfaces, and more.

Characteristics:

  • Color: White
  • Finish: Glossy
  • Density: 1.22 ± 0.05 (for mixture of base and curing agent)
  • Solid content: 42 ± 2 by volume (for mixture of base and curing agent)
  • Abrasion: The paint film, after completely drying, has high hardness and strong resistance to abrasion and impact.
  • Adhesion: Very good adhesion on well-prepared surfaces. Adhesion problems do not occur under normal conditions.
  • Temperature: Can withstand 100°C in dry conditions.

Advantages:

  • Anti-mold
  • Excellent adhesion on old surfaces painted with epoxy or polyurethane
  • Non-toxic and easy to use
  • Creates a solid base for the next coat of paint
  • Easy to apply with an ordinary spray gun

2. Application Process:

Preparation:

  • Soft steel:
    • Sand the surface according to Swedish standard SA 2.5 or SA 3.0 for better results (SIS 05 59 00/ISO 8501-1). Apply a suitable primer immediately and then cover with a suitable middle coat.
    • If the steel surface changes color or there is rust, the surface must be cleaned again. The surface must be dried and cleaned, free from dust, stains, oil, and other contamination before painting.
  • Galvanized steel:
    • New galvanized surfaces require cleaning according to SSPC-SP1. For old galvanized steel surfaces, scrub the surface to remove any remaining impurities. Then, apply primer immediately. All surfaces must be dry, oil-free, and grease-free before painting.
  • Plastered walls, concrete, asbestos, cement:
    • Surface humidity must be less than 6% (measured by Sovereign moisture meter). Unstable substances such as powder, old paint film, stains, and unstable mortar should be cleaned with high-pressure water or a suitable scraper.
    • High-pressure water should be used for exterior wall surfaces. Wipe it in wet condition. Oil or grease must be cleaned with a solvent or mild detergent. After allowing the surface to dry thoroughly, apply a 40-50% diluted Nippon EP4 Clear - the primer.
  • Wood:
    • Surface humidity must be less than 10% (measured by Sovereign moisture meter). Sand and clean the surface to make it smooth, then apply primer with suitable paint. Recommended number of paint layers: 1-2 layers.

3. Recommended Thickness:

  • 40 microns for dry paint layer
  • 96 microns for wet paint layer

4. Theoretical Coverage:

10.4 m2/liter (40 microns thickness for dry paint layer)

5. Construction Technique:

Brush, roller, spray gun with or without air

6. Diluting Method:

  • Spray with gas:
    • Pressure (kg/cm2): 3-4
    • Nozzle size at 60° angle: 1.3mm
  • Spraying without air:
    • Pressure (kg/cm2): 140-170
    • Nozzle size at 60° angle: 0.015" - 0.017"

7. Diluting Conditions:

  • Brush & roller: up to 10%
  • Airless spray: up to 25%
  • Spraying without air: up to 5%

8. Mixing Ratio:

Mix 9 parts of PU UNDERCOAT WHITE (Base) with 1 part of UNDERCOAT HARDENER PU (Solidifying agent) by volume. Blend the base. While stirring slowly, add the hardener and continue stirring until a well-blended mixture is achieved. Diluting stage is after the base and solidifying agent have been mixed.

9. Shelf Life of the Mixed Mixture at 25°C to 30°C:

6-8 hours
