Overview of star anise:

Vietnam and China are the largest producers and exporters of star anise globally. However, Vietnamese star anise is of superior quality compared to Chinese star anise, with a sweet taste and natural aroma.

In Vietnam, star anise is mainly grown in northern provinces such as Quang Ninh and Cao Bang. Among them, Lang Son province is the most renowned, accounting for nearly 75% of the country's star anise growing area.

Appearance and taste:

Star anise is the dried fruit of the star anise (Illicium verum), typically 0.25 to 0.5 cm in diameter. Its fruits are characterized by 6-8 points, with each point being approximately 1 cm long and containing a single seed. Star anise has a glossy and smooth texture, with a light brown color that turns reddish brown or rusty when dried.

Types of star anise:

Star anise is commonly classified into two types: whole star anise (spring and autumn) and broken star anise.
