PINE WOOD FINGER JOINT

I - What is Pine finger joint? Is it good?

Pine finger joint is created by joining small-sized Pine pieces with specific glue under high temperature and pressure. Pine is one of the most popular wood types in Vietnam due to its beautiful grain and harmonious color.

II - Classification of Pine finger joint and basic specifications

AB quality:

One side is nice, the other side is fair. Side A is completely free of knots, heartwood, termites, black seams, etc. Side B allows small live knots with an average diameter less than 1cm, with no heartwood. The moisture content ranges from 8% to 14%. This type is suitable for producing wood products such as table surfaces, cabinet doors, kitchen tables, etc.

AC quality:

Side A is completely free of knots, heartwood, termites, black seams, etc. Side C usually has live knots, dead knots (processed), black seams, and the color quality is relatively lower than side A and side B. The moisture content ranges from 8% to 14%. This type is used for furniture, sheathing boards for floors or walls, etc. (only requiring one nice side).

BC quality:

Side B allows small live knots with an average diameter less than 1cm, with no heartwood. Side C usually has live knots, dead knots (processed), black seams, and the color quality is relatively lower than side A and side B. The moisture content ranges from 8% to 14%.

III - Characteristics of Pine finger joint

Advantages

  • The natural beauty and softness of the grain, combined with a modern light color, create a high aesthetic appeal.
  • Despite its softness, Pine has excellent screw ability and is easy to shape and pattern as desired.
  • High longevity, with proper use and protection, Pine can last for 20 years.
  • The price is low, making it suitable for many types of customers. Additionally, the availability of the source helps to limit imitations, counterfeits, and reduce intermediate costs.

Disadvantages

  • Despite its many advantages, Pine wood is not without its drawbacks: it is easily scratched and dented due to its softness.
  • Only side A is free of knots, especially live knots, but it comes at a higher price. Side B and side C still have knots and black seams that significantly impact the wood's aesthetics.
  • The availability and diversity of Pine wood sources in Vietnam are limited compared to other types of wood.
