Hard, transparent, odorless, flame retardant when burning.
Colorless and can be easily colored, with a beautiful appearance. Can be processed through injection molding method (processing temperature is about 180-200 degrees C).
The mechanical properties of PS depend on the degree of polymerization. PS with low molecular weight is very brittle and has low tensile strength. As the molecular weight increases, the mechanical strength and heat resistance increase, while brittleness decreases. If the polymerization exceeds a certain level, the mechanical properties decrease. Tensile strength decreases with increasing temperature. Relative elongation starts to increase at 80 degrees C. Beyond that temperature, PS becomes soft and sticky like rubber. Therefore, PS should only be used at temperatures below 80 degrees C.
2. Usage:
PS plastic is used in the production of plastic foam containers for food, CD and DVD plastic covers, children's toys, computers, hair dryers, kitchen appliances, etc.
In the field of molded plastic, PS is often used to make plastic containers, plastic cups, plastic bowls, and plastic confectionery trays due to its hard and brittle properties, lightweight nature, ease of shaping, and ability to create beautiful products. However, it is not recommended to use PS plastic products to store hot food (above 70 degrees Celsius) as Monostyrene released at high temperatures can cause liver damage. Therefore, do not use PS plastic trays to store boiling water, greasy food, pickles, or vinegar.
