Since ancient times, Vietnam has been a close neighbor and trusted comrade of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian countries in overcoming the resistance wars against America and France. Building on these strong bonds, Southeast Asian countries have now become strategic partners in both economy and politics. In recent years, with rapid growth rates, these countries have become potential markets for Vietnamese enterprises. Cross-country transportation has also become simpler and more convenient.
There are two main modes of transportation through Laos: informal routes and official channels.
Informal transportation is used for small-scale goods, bypassing border gates. Although the volume and scale are small, there is still management and inspection by authorities, with relatively simple paperwork and procedures.
Official channel transportation is carried out by units based on economic contracts between importers and exporters. Goods must be accompanied by sufficient documents on quality and undergo chemical inspections. They must be transported through the official border gates of both countries.
